Join me this Friday at 9PM as I welcome Fabiola Abelard and Florence Jean-Joseph, two spiritual leaders who will be sworn-in as GwètòDe for the Haitian Diaspora by the Konfederasyon Nasyonal Vodouyizan Ayisyen (KNVA) on Saturday, February 25th in Harlem, NYC. To strengthen its international presence, KNVA created the administrative positions of “GwètòDe”, “Gwètò.”
Together with the "Ati National', the Grand Council of KNVA will convene in New York for an official two-fold ceremony entitled “Wosman” (elevation and presentation). One representative each from New York, Canada, Massachusetts and French Guyana will be formally installed and introduced to the Community.

POST-SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:
In addition to our two announced guests, we had the pleasure of being joined by GwètòDe Manbo Euvonie Georges-Auguste, who is the Grand Servant of the Grand Council of KNVA.
Among other topics, we spoke about the history of KNVA and the context of its creation, including the 13 campaigns of persecution and killings of vodouyizan in Haiti over the past 200 years.
We also spoke about the 1987 Constitution's designation of all faiths in Haiti as equal and the fact that nevertheless, in practice the vodouyizan sector does not receive the same support as Catholicism and Protestantism from the Haitian government. For example, while catholic priests are paid by the Haitian government, KNVA's GwètòDe, including the diaspora GwètòDe do not receive stipends from the government. They may, however be soon accorded diplomatic passports if current negotiations with the Haitian government succeed.
As planned, we discussed the responsibilities and duties of the diaspora GwètòDe and about what to expect at the GwètòDe Wosman/Swearing-in this Saturday 2/25 in Harlem, NYC.
